Healthy Shorelines for Healthy Lakes

Microgrant Program

divider

If your lake group or residents participated in Love Your Lake you can apply for a microgrant to help naturalize your lake’s shoreline. Healthy shorelines are among the most productive and diverse environments. They support a vibrant community of plants and wildlife, help filter pollutants and protect against erosion. We want to help get your lake healthy and keep it that way! The Love Your Lake Microgrant Program will provide up to $500 per lake group or association for shoreline naturalization projects that contribute to lake health. Project proposals need to demonstrate involvement of your lake community members.

Who can apply?

Lake groups and lake associations who have participated in Love Your Lake are eligible to receive a microgrant. Applications will be reviewed based on the quality of the project and the need for financial support.

What projects may be funded?

The Love Your Lake Microgrant Program will provide up to $500 per lake group or association for shoreline naturalization projects that positively impact lake health such as shoreline restoration and demonstration sites.  Only native plants can be purchased through this grant as they are better adapted to the local environment, require less care, and support the needs of local wildlife. To help find plants native to your region, visit CWF’s Native Plant Encyclopedia and Watershed Canada’s Native Plant Database.

Community support required

Love Your Lake Microgrant Program proposals need to demonstrate the support and involvement of your lake community members in projects that take action towards improving and maintaining shoreline and lake health. Examples can include community members distributing native plants, helping design garden layouts and planting shorelines.

What project costs are eligible?

Receipts will need to be submitted to Terri-Lee Reid, terrileer@cwf-fcf.org for reimbursement up to a total of $500 per approved application. The following project costs are eligible under the program:

  • Native plants and other landscaping material and supply costs
  • Equipment rental costs
